چکیده

Reproductive activity of Red Snapper Lutjanus campechanus (Poey, 1860) at artificial reefs (ARs) are only recently being investigated. Yet, the management fishery differs on a regional basis with state and federal jurisdictions, reproductive differences among regions have not been To compare L. (inshore) (offshore) individuals were collected in northwestern Gulf Mexico from four ARs quarterly for 2 yrs. Inshore sites exhibited fishing pressure year round whereas offshore had season open during few months summer. Collected measured weight length, then aged, sexed, phase identified using following metrics: resting, spawning capable, actively spawning, regressing. Individuals all phases three sites. Spawning was observed April to September, June as induction peak period. Hydrated oocytes observed, which indicated imminent within 12 h. Although 79% female combined mature based phase, most fish small, young, inshore made up 12% females. Several compared sites, yet higher We suggest that capable when those several years age, but younger, barely comprised majority. Thus, include their life cycle directly spawn given enough time achieve maturity. However, fisheries should consider enforcing restrictions depending jurisdiction allow before capture both jurisdictions. • similar capacity jurisdiction. spanned September starting June. Of females them Further region-based be considered successful spawning. Artificial essential reproduction little natural cover.

Artificial reef placement: a red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus, ecosystem and fuzzy rulebased model

This study on reef placement involves two aspects: (1) the development of a bioenergetics model for red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus (Poey), in Gulf of Mexico waters off the coast of Alabama, where significant numbers of artificial reefs are thought to exist, and (2) a fuzzy rough set model by which parameters determined from the bioenergetics model can provide a decision tool for optimally sp...

Feeding biomechanics of juvenile red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) from the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Juvenile red snapper settle across several complex habitats, which function as nurseries for young fish. Little is known about their life history or feeding biomechanics during this time. However, recent studies have shown higher growth rates for juveniles located on mud habitats adjacent to low profile reefs, perhaps because of varied prey availability and abundance. To further investigate the...

Spatial and Dietary Overlap Creates Potential for Competition between Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) and Vermilion snapper (Rhomboplites aurorubens).

Understanding the complex nature of direct and indirect species interactions is a critical precursor to successful resource management. In the northern Gulf of Mexico fisheries ecosystem, red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) and vermilion snapper (Rhomboplites aurorubens) are two commercially harvested species within a larger reef fish complex. These two species share similar habitats and diets; ...
